The Story

The Brand

The brand YEWO (Tumbuka for the word thank you) was founded by Maddy McAllister and Kyle to create economic opportunities for marginalized communities in Malawi through sustainable design. With a vision to promote social and economic change through handicrafts, YEWO grew from a small idea into a dynamic brand. Today, the company employs over 20 artisans in a workshop in Mzuzu and stands for timeless designs that reflect the resilience and creativity of the people of Malawi.

The Story

The Craft

Each piece of YEWO jewelry is handcrafted with attention to detail in a workshop in Mzuzu, Northern Malawi. The team learns specialized techniques such as casting, metalworking and finishing. YEWO combines traditional methods, such as lost wax casting, with innovative, resource-saving processes to create jewelry with fine details and sustainable production. Only recycled brass and 14k gold from conflict-free sources are used.

The Faces behind

The Impact

YEWO sees itself as more than just a jewelry brand - a driver for positive change. Through stable jobs, fair wages and regular training in craft and entrepreneurial skills, YEWO creates a sustainable foundation for families and communities. In addition to employment, YEWO is committed to the environment by planting a tree for every piece of jewelry sold. In addition, the brand supports a local preschool, funds teachers' salaries and a nutrition program. This combination of economic, social and environmental responsibility makes YEWO a brand that really makes a difference.
